MN Organic Legal Corner
Our firm is delighted to be facilitating the very first "Legal Corner" at the 2014 Minnesota Organic Conference on January 10 and 11 in St. Cloud, MN. The Legal Corner will feature experienced attorneys available for free in-person consultations with farmers and other conference attendees.
Conference-goers can come to the Legal Corner with questions about how the law may impact their organic farm or food businesses. Legal Corner participants will be able to talk one-on-one with an attorney about legal issues including National Organic Program regulations, intern and employee pay, marketing contracts, business entity formation, pesticide or GMO drift, estate planning, leases, USDA issues (e.g., FSA appeals, crop insurance denials), state and local licensing issues, and much more!
Attorneys will be available at the Legal Corner during morning and afternoon sessions on Friday, January 10th and a morning session on Saturday, January 11th.
The "Real Deal on LLCs"
Additionally, Partner Jen Jambor-Delgado will be presenting at the MN Organic Conference on the "Real Deal on LLCs." Jen will explain on how LLCs work and how much liability protection you actually obtain by just filing LLC formation papers. (Preview: Just filing LLC papers won't give you much legal protection, unless your new LLC maintains additional corporate formalities required to create a true liability shield). Jen will explain how farmers and food business owners can truly protect their valuable operations, and will also touch on Minnesota corporate farm law issues.
Attorney Robyn Ingber will also join the "Real Deal on LLCs" discussion, speaking about the role LLCs can play in farm succession planning and how to effectively use an LLC as part of your transition plan for the next stage of your farm business.
MOSES Organic Conference Legal Corner
Last but not least, look for both Amanda and Jen at the 2014 MOSES Organic Conference Legal Corner on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1. This is the second year of the MOSES Legal Corner, which proved very popular with conference-goers at the 2013 conference.
Here's the MOSES Legal Corner description: Talk one-on-one with an attorney about issues related to your farm business or estate. Volunteer attorneys experienced in real estate, business, agriculture and estate planning will be available to provide general information to conference goers. Attorneys will be available: Friday 10 a.m.-noon and 12:30-2:30 p.m.; and, Saturday 10 a.m.-Noon.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone at the Minnesota Organic and MOSES Organic conferences in 2014! If you'd like to get in touch before then, please always feel free to contact us.
